Chai Latte

My daughter adores masala chai, which is a flavored black tea with milk. It originates from South Asia and has a spicy taste to it. Hope you will like it as well.

For this recipe you will need a mix of black tea with Indian spices. If you don’t want to buy readymade spiced tea, you can make your own.

In order to prepare masala chai you will need to combine 1/2 cup of hot brewed spiced tea with 1/2 cup of hot milk, as well as brown sugar and cinnamon to taste. Adding sugar is important since it helps bring out the flavor of the tea.

To make Chai Latte, you will have to foam the milk using a milk frother (as the one shown in the picture) before mixing it with the spiced tea. If you don’t have a milk frother, you can use a blender, it will do the job just as well.

Mix the sweetened spiced tea and milk together, sprinkle some cinnamon on top and enjoy.

You can make your own spiced tea by combining in a saucepan cardamom pods, cinnamon sticks, cloves, fennel seeds, ginger roots (peeled and thinly sliced) and water, and boiling that for 5-7 minutes. Then remove from heat and steep for 10-15 minutes in order for the spices to infuse. Add a black tea bag and bring to boil again, then reduce the heat and let the tea simmer in a saucepan for 5 minutes. Afterwards, discard all the spices.
